If you want to go glamping in Ohio, then the Kountry Resort Campground in Racine, Ohio is a good choice. It’s an affordable and cozy option, somewhere between traditional tent camping and luxury glamping resorts.

I visited in 2019, and it’s honestly one of my favorite camping memories so far. Here I’ll give you an honest recollection of my experiences there and what you can expect.

Features and Services

The first thing you should know is that the Kountry Resort Campground is open year-round and offers annual rates for people who want to live there in their RVs. When I was there, there were more than a handful of lots with decorations and plants, permanent fixtures, which means that people like staying there enough to make it their home, which is promising.

You’re able to camp there in a tent or an RV. But I chose the Large Deluxe Cabin. When it comes to glamping, a cabin is usually my go-to. As a disabled girly, there are some luxuries that I literally can’t live without. Their cabins are all big enough to sleep between 3 and 6 people, which means you’ve got the option to bring company with you, or to enjoy the large space yourself.

Whether you’re camping in a tent, RV or cabin, the facility has a number of amenities. There are a number of lakes at the resort, and you can rent kayaks and paddle boats to enjoy them up close and personal.

There are fire rings, golfing, horseshoe pits, hiking trails, basketball and volleyball courts, and 3 different playgrounds.

If you’ve got kids, then what that means is that they’ll have a playground nearby no matter which camping area you’re in, and you can take them to the other two so they don’t get bored.

There are lots of extras, like on site laundry facilities, a picnic area with a shelter, tables and park grills, and restrooms and bathhouses with showers. If you forget or run out of something, they have a gift shop/convenience store where you can buy everything from snacks and drinks to firewood and propane.

There’s an indoor pool, too. It’s huge! There’s a deck on the back of the pool facility that overlooks the campgrounds, and it’s a really pretty view. It’s a clean facility, too, which is important to me. I spent a lot of time in the pool there. There is a lake for swimming, but I liked the idea of a pool and chlorine to clean out germs more.

The cabins come equipped with a stocked kitchen. When I say fully-stocked, I mean I had cups, plates, utensils, pans and everything. I had everything I needed. There’s also a bathroom with a shower and toilet, which is at the top of the list of my requirements when camping.

My Cabin

Every cabin is different, so I’ll tell you about the one I stayed in. It had a huge loft, which is where I stayed. There were two full-sized beds up there, as well as a balcony area. That balcony area had a great view, and it was a nice place to get away from everything or have a quiet private moment while you sip your morning coffee.

We had a huge deck that overlooked the lake. I really enjoyed spending my time out on the deck and watching all of the activity on the lake. There was a lot of wildlife, such as deer and birds that came around, and the stars of the show- ducks! The ducks that live on the lake are so tame that they’d come right up to me and let me pet them. I spent lots of time feeding them and talking to them, as insane as I know that makes me sound.

I personally love to fish, so the fact that the stairs on the back deck led down to the bank of the lake to fish was a huge bonus for me. But if you’re not a fishing girly, those same steps can lead you down to a picnic table and fire pit. Who doesn’t like a fire and some s’mores?

Besides being comfortable, the cabin was gorgeous. The living area included a television and comfortable seating. The whole family had room to sit in the dining area, and we played cards there at night.

The atmosphere in that common area was inviting enough that we all wanted to be there. But the thing I most liked was the spiral stairs. It was a gorgeous accompaniment to the rustic décor of the cabin, and honestly tons of fun to use!

The Downsides

I don’t have many criticisms of the Kountry Resort Campground. But, there are a few things I wish were better. For instance, when I went our air conditioner stopped working. As I mentioned, I’m disabled and me and heat just don’t mix well because it will make me sick. They did send a guy to look at it, but he said they couldn’t replace it for like several days, and our stay would end before it was replaced. So, that sucked. And honestly, one little window unit wasn’t going to be enough to cool down that whole cabin anyway. This may not bother you, but it’s a good thing to be aware of.

The one other thing is that if you’re going to stay there and cook, bring food with you. There aren’t many restaurants around and they all close pretty early, especially if you’re a night owl like me. Grocery stores aren’t inside the resort, and you’ll drive for several miles to find one. The convenience store/gift shop in the resort doesn’t really offer groceries. The proximity to restaurants and grocery stores isn’t the fault of the resort, but it’s a thing to keep in mind.

Conclusion

Glamping in Ohio is fun and rewarding if you go to the Kountry Resort Campground in Racine, Ohio. There are plenty of opportunities to relax, have fun, get outdoors and maybe even make new friends!
